Live Hitting + on Saturdays / High School Prep Sessions

Baseball in the Midwest is defined by the snow and cold.  Repeated delays to the start of the season equal missed at-bats and losing the opportunity to prepare for the season.  College teams are able to take advantage of great facilities to have their pitchers and hitters game-ready for the start of the season.

The Blizzard Baseball Academy brings this college baseball experience high school player across the metro (and beyond!) with our Live Hitting + program where players get both instruction and mechanical work but also get instruction from the mental side on how to set up a hitter as well as how to approach each offensive at-bat with a plan.

The first 45 minutes of each session will be involve both hitting and pitching mechanics drills, stations and rep work before we head into live pitching and hitting work.  During our "Live +" work, we'll work on both pitching and hitting approach and how to execute a plan during at-bats.  There will be both a pitching coach and hitting coach there for all of the sessions.

Hitters – get your timing back and get up to 100 live at-bats before your spring season.

Pitchers – get a feel for your mechanics and pitches while facing live hitters every outing.

Catchers – work on game calling, receiving, and blocking.

Stats - We will keep track of pitches (velocity, location and results) as well as hitters results including exit velocities and at-bat results.

Don’t get caught in a slow start to the season…sign-up now and gain a step on the competition!

Program Format

Pitch Count Schedule

Week 1        2 x 15        30 pitches*
Week 2        2 x 15        30 pitches*
Week 3        3 x 15        45 pitches*

* All pitchers will be monitored and work at their own pace if need be.  These are suggested pitch counts.

Batters start with 1-1 count to increase repetition.  Two pitchers will throw at a time (in separate cages).  Our instructors or umpires will call balls/strikes.

This environment will be very relaxed and a place where instructors, professional baseball players, college and high school players will be able to share information about setting up hitters, approach at the plate and all around strategy when competing against live hitting and pitching.

Our Baseball Academy has wood and composite bats, but players are advised to bring their own wood or composite bats.  No aluminum will be allowed.

Coaches and Instructors

Ben Moore, our Lead Pitching Instructor, and Mike Jurgella, our Lead Hitting and Catching Instructor, will be running sessions.

Moore, who is the current Pitching Coach for the Sioux Falls Canaries, played 11 years of pro ball that has included holding multiple league records including total wins, strikeouts and strikeouts in a season as well as earning MVP Honors in the Australian League when he led the Perth Heat to a championship.

Jurgella, who has been a two-time All-Star in the Frontier League the last two seasons, was regarded as one of the top college hitters in the country during his time at St. Cloud.  Jurgella is also our lead Catching Instructor at the Blizzard Academy.
