Matthew Grundtner | Player Interview

Name: Matthew Grundtner
Grad Year: 2026
Blizzard Team: 11u Elite

What is your favorite thing about playing baseball?
Everything about baseball is my favorite thing. It makes me happy, it makes me feel good, it’s my happy place, it makes a bad day amazing. It makes me forget about my troubles. My favorite thing about baseball is everything about baseball.

What is your favorite Blizzard Big 5 and why?
Kaizen because it teaches you that small changes or improvements every day helps you to reach your big goal.

How do you implement it into your daily or weekly routine?
I always want to get the best grades possible in school. I apply kaizen to my school work by using my what I have learned, my mistakes or feedback to always move me forward to my best grades.

How has playing for the Blizzard impacted your life?
When I went out for Blizzard tryouts I didn’t know anyone. I was the only kid from my
association and I was nervous. What I got was the amazing opportunity to play high level baseball with kids from all over that have the same passion for baseball as I do. The Blizzard has given me the confidence to know that I can do anything I put my mind to and I’ve made some awesome friends.

What are some of the great memories you have had playing with the Blizzard?
Definitely playing in Las Vegas for the desert classic and being so close to bracket play and hanging out with my friends on the team like Cooper and Easton. Also going the negro baseball hall of fame in KC with the team and coach.

What do you look forward to the most when you go to a Blizzard practice?
Being able to get the coaching and training to become the best baseball player of my abilities at such a young age so I can achieve my goals of being on a major league roster.

What is the best advice you have ever received and from who?
The best advice I’ve ever received was from my mom. She says “ work hard and have fun!”

Who is your Blizzard coach and what makes him so special?
My coach is coach Lufkin and what makes him so special is his sense of humor and how he interacts with us and teaches us the correct way to do things and having fun with it all at the same time to give us the best training and experience possible.

Who are some of your favorite Blizzard teammates and why?
Cooper, Easton, Robbie, and Blake are all my favorite teammates because they are funny and really talented people and they love the same game I do for all the same reasons and we like similar things and like to hang out just be boys and have fun and that is why these four individuals are my favorite teammates and even best friends.
