Blizzard win 2 championships in Vero Beach, FL - TCO Tourney Update

Blizzard 11u/12u (Record: 1-3)

The 12u team probably had the toughest bracket in the tournament encountering all four teams that advanced to the final four of the tournament..

Miles Tomaszewski led the way hitting a home run, 2B and collected 3 RBI.  Vinny Cognetta also chipped in three hits on the weekend.

Tomaszewski also earned the win in his start going 4.1 innings striking out four.  Connor Flanagan struck out 8 in his 3 innings of work against tournament runner-up CG of PA Blue.

Blizzard Black 13u (Record: 0-4)

The buzz saw hit the Blizzard Black 13u team despite losing two games by just one run and eventual 3rd Place team in the Delmara Aces.

Nate Barclay, Cade Hamilton and Gavin Iverson led the way in hits each earning three on the weekend.  Riley West, Barclay and Hamilton also hit 2Bs on the weekend.

Robbie Babcock was Mr. Consistent on the mound ... again.  He struck out four, allowed on earned run in his three innings on the weekend.

The 13u squad did, however, lead the entire tournament in jousting wins.  Their efforts were seen as Gavin Iverson and Co. dualed their woeful opponent dominating them in a battle to the death during a small weekend rain delay.

Blizzard Blue 13u (Record: 4-1-1) Runner-Up

The Blizzard Blue 13u team may have run into their toughest competition yet as they lost in the championship game uncharacteristically 15-5.  The Blue team, who was a 26-5-1 season record, played well in the tournament scoring 64 runs on the weekend.

Standouts included Carson Hart, who collected nine hits including three triples and two doubles.  Hart also led the team in RBI with 14u on the weekend as well.  Tyler Beck and Anthony Brown collected six hits while Brady Keane, Chase Rudolph and Max Perkins each chipped in five hits.

Easton Ahrens pitched six innings on the weekend striking out six in his complete game semi-final win.  Oscar Waisanen was second on the team in innings pitched with five over his two appearances.

The team also had a .938 fielding percentage committing only six errors in 96 chances.  Not one player made more than one error on the weekend.  The team his .393 on the weekend scoring a total of 64 runs.

Blizzard Blue 14u (Record: 6-0) Champions

The Blizzard 14u team went back-to-back defending their 2021 title by defeating the Tri State Arsenal DB9 team by a convincing 11-5 win behind a strong five-inning outing by North Dakota's Alex Seaver, who struck out eight.  Cason Borchardt, another North Dakota native, went the final two innings allowing no earned runs while striking out one.

Van Tellier threw a complete game shutout, one of three Blizzard shutouts on the weekend, in the semi-final win striking out eight while only allowing three hits.

Nick Stellrecht (CG, 9Ks, 2H) and Sam Abrahamson (CG, 8Ks, 2H), both hailing from Wisconsin, were the other two top performers on the mound helping their Blizzard team to an undefeated 6-0 record.

Haygen Barbee, from San Angelo, TX, and Abrahamson, both collected seven hits on the weekend, leading the team.

Borchardt led the team in RBI with eight while Barbee had seven and Brody Medina chipped in with six.

Blizzard Black 14u (Record: 0-3-1)

The Blizzard Black 14u, despite not winning a game, lost three games by two runs or less in three of their four contests.  This team, who had a season record of 20-10, was led by Keith Milam, who had a monster weekend, collecting six hits in 10 plate appearances.  Milam, also led the team in runs (6) and stolen bases (3). 

Trace Woods hit a nifty .308 on the weekend and was dominant on the mound striking out seven in his five innings of work despite a no-decision.  Ethan Jeffers threw four innings allowing on two earned runs and struck out three in his start. 

Blizzard Carolina 15u (Record: 3-2) 3rd Place

The Blizzard 15u played 'up' in the sophomore division this past weekend and their winter work paid off as they lost in the semi-final game and earned 3rd Place in the Treasure Coast Challenge in Vero Beach, FL.

Isaac Beseman hit .500 on the weekend followed by Nick Johnson who came out of the tournament hitting .400.  Nick Hirsch led the way with 4RBI while Johnson and Tyler Allshouse both collected three RBI. 

The pitching was outstanding this past weekend where Carson Timm threw 4.2 innings and striking out five in his start earning him a win.  Ben Engele, Johnson, Caleb Johson and Carter Amelse gave up three total runs in 13 total innings. 

Defensively, the 15u squad committed only eight errors in 107 chances.  Connor McClain threw out 37% of would-be base stealers

Blizzard Carolina 16u (Record: 5-1) Runner Up

It is difficult to say the 2024 Blue team had a dissapointing weekend, but after a performance so dominant in their first games, a championship was the goal.  Despite scoring almost 90 runs in their first five games, Coach Albers' squad fell in the championship game to a very good Keystone State Bombers National team.

Brayden Bezanson went off this past weekend going 11-for-16 with 10 RBI and 10 runs scored.  Tyler Guerin wasn't too far behind going 11-for-17 with 9 RBI and nine runs scored.  Trent Cornell had 10 hits and was a perfect 11-for-11 in stolen bases. 

Maddux Schrupp allowed no earned runs in his start going 4.2 innings while striking out five.  Thomas Ohotto struck out five in his 4.2 inning start while newcomer Easton Bobb was dominant in his semi-final start winning his first Blizzard start striking out seven and going a strong four innings.

Hunter Carlson threw out 40% of would-be base stealers and hit a cool .636 on the weekend.

Blizzard Royal 18u (Record: 5-1) Champions

The Minnesota Blizzard Royal 18u team took home a championship and was led mainly by seniors who make their 'last hurrah' on the field in Vero Beach.  They punched their ticket to the finals by winning 6-2 behind senior hurler and NDSU commit Zak Endres as he threw a complete game striking out six and allowing only one earned run in one of his bigger starts of the 2021-2022 Blizzard season.

Junior Jake Busson nearly tossed a no-hitter in the finals but settled for a complete game one-hitter while striking out six.  Busson also hit two home runs in Hammond Stadium on his way to a .400 weekend.

Seniors Maddox Mihalakis (Arizona commit), Blake Guerin (Iowa commit), Tomas Nelson (Gustavus commit) and Sam Schneider (Gustavus commit) dominated the weekend collecting a total of 28 hits including 26 RBI.  Guerin, who turned 18 on Saturday, celebrated with a grand slam and a solo dinger in the last game of pool play capping a weekend where he collected 12 RBI.

AJ Rasmussen and Brayden Olson were standouts on the mound each striking out 10.  Nelson Koenig struck out six in his start while Tomas Nelson offered up some major two-way help as he struck out six in his two outings.

Blizzard Carolina 18u (Record: 2-2)

Abe Reinitz, Parker Heubsch and Colin Hackl led the Blizzard Carolina 18u team with five hits apiece this past weekend at the Treasure Coast Challenge.  These three juniors also collected nine runs as well as nine RBI to lead their team to a 2-2 record. 

Isaiah Hasz hit .400 on the weekend and also struck out six in four innings of work and allowed zero earned runs to lead the pitching staff in most categories on the mound.

Shea Landa allowed one earned run in three innings of work.

Senior Parker Gilchrist (Morris commit) pitched his tail off against the All-Stars, a playoff team, striking out four hitters in his four innings of work. 

Blizzard Black 18u (Record: 2-2)

The Blizzard Black 18u team went 2-2 this past weekend behind the Rog brothers, who earned a win (Bryce) and a save (Andrew).  Andrew Rog hit .517 on the weekend to add to his prowess on the mound.  Eli Reeves hit .500 and also led the team with three runs.

Matias Anderson-Garcia and Louis Hertling both had three knocks on the weekend while Hertling led the team with four RBI on the weekend.

Michael Prosch (Gustavus commit) pitched well on the mound and led the entire program in weekend strikeouts with 11 in his seven innings of work.

The Blizzard Black team made only six errors in 89 chances throughout the weekend and "Iron Man" Timmy Boncher threw out 2 would-be base stealers in his four games behind the dish.
