Today’s Spotlight & Featured Player: Ryder Tri (13u)

Parents: Carey & Jessica (I had the pleasure of meeting these two a couple years ago. They are always ready to chip in and make every experience the most enjoyable event possible. Carey and I trade texts throughout the year, even though our kiddos are in different ages we have kept that connection. Carey was an elite player back in the day and this past summer on the trip to Omaha we got to watch his alma mater, Notre Dame. Jessica is a sweat-heart. She mingles with the moms but will check in with me throughout the games to consult about velocity, the strike zone or the upcoming opponent and/or scenarios. If your kiddo ever takes a ball to the face make sure to swing into River’s Edge Dental Clinic in Lakeville, MN (both Carey/Jess are DDS – Doctors of Dental Surgery)!

History: When you think Ryder or anyone in the Tri family, ENERGY is what should immediately come to mind! The family is full of it and brings that energy and passion to the field every time they show up. Ryder played up with the boys in Arizona a couple years ago and since then I have always kept tabs with the Tri family. He was at the ball park at the right time last spring when the boys were playing on St. Patrick’s day and needed a player. If there is an opportunity for more baseball he is going to take advantage. It was exciting to play with Ryder again this past summer. Ryder is a tall, lanky and comes at you from the left side. He has coiled mechanics on the mound and a great pick-off move (especially when only one ump is on the field as he is fully aware of what he can get away with on the pick to first). Ryder utilizes a mid/upper 60’s fastball and I anticipate he will cross 70 mph this year in 13U. Although the fastball is a great pitch, he is going to get you with his movement and his “air-bender” changeup that breaks low and away from a righty hitter. At the plate Ryder has a smooth swing and can show pull side pop to the gap. He was assigned number 24 this past summer and it was fitting since he has a beautiful swing from the left side. Ryder always brings a smile to my face, in the lobby in Iowa this past summer Ryder greets me barefoot in the lobby and goes where is Gavin. I go he is in the truck, without skipping a beat Ryder goes outside (not knowing which vehicle is mine). He goes from car to car, peaking in windows until he finds mine. I get in the truck to go park and he rides with. He is such a happy kiddo but a true bull dog on the field. Ultra-competitive. You will see Ryder on the diamond for years to come (heck even when they go on family vacations he finds facilities to work out in)!

Fun Fact: Carey & Jessica I always said we would laugh about this someday, well today is the day. Did everyone know that Ryder is a professional painter? His parents were out of town for the weekend this past summer (Connelly's were watching him) and Ryder decided his room needed some new decorating, thus paint from the garage was the perfect choice. He added some nice white stripes to the walls so if you are ever in need of some home renovation, Ryder is your guy!!! He is super motivated and ambitious, ready to take on any job no matter what.
