Newmie coming back to the Blizzard program !

Newmie is back !

After spending six seasons in the Northwoods League - three with the Alexandria Blue Anchors and three with the St. Cloud Rox, former World Series Champion Al Newman is 'coming home' to the Blizzard program!

"I'm pumped to be back in Blizzard blue," Newman said.  "My five years with the Blizzard was great and I'm looking back to see the boys again."

Newman, who gave lessons, ran camps and coached in the Blizzard program for five seasons, is back and will be joining practices, helping coach and will be around many of our Blizzard events for the rest of the season.

Newman earned two World Series rings in 1987 and 1991 with the Minnesota Twins as a utility infielder, coached in their minor league system and also scouted for the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Newman was a Montreal Expos 1st round draft pick in 1981 before he started his time with the Twins in 1987 and finishing in 1991 with the Texas Rangers.

Newman stayed on with the Minnesota Twins as their 3rd Base Coach in 2002-2006 coaching the likes of Torii Hunter, Jacque Jones and more.

Newman, who coached in both the summer Blizzard program and the Blizzard Elite program, coached Blizzard Alum Sam Hentges (2nd Round, Cleveland Indians), Logan Shore (2nd Round, Oakland Athletics), Alex Call (3rd Round, Chicago White Sox) and Matt Fiedler (9th Round, St. Louis Cardinals).

Welcome back, Newmie !
