Twin Cities Orthopedics Spotlight & Featured Player: Jax Marshall (14U)

Parents: Mike & Nicole – Mike is an intense dad that roams all over the place behind the backstop during games. As he coached in Shoreview the hardest part when the season started is the idea that he didn’t have to bring anything, worry about lineups, etc. (Just got to be a dad and watch the games). He also coaches hockey (amazing how many baseball players have hockey backgrounds – not really a thing down in the giant city of Stewartville, a few play but not like what we have encountered with Blizzard teammates). Nicole is very sweet, a little on the quieter side but not afraid to chit chat with other parents. She make an awesome dip when the team grilled out at the AFBL tournament (had mini BBQ Fritos sprinkled on top of it and Keavin and I ate it as a salad not knowing it was a dip – was amazing no matter how you ate it).

History: Jax joined Blizzard after playing summer ball in Shoreview with RJ Madison (14U Black) and Luke Wyffels (14U Gold National)…it is possible there is another player that made a 14U team as the Shoreview/Moundsview connection is strong with Blizzard. I was able to watch Jax this past summer at the state tournament in Rochester. Jax played third, caught and pitched. This past fall Jax has played a lot of third base, second, some outfield, first and even caught this past weekend in Lee’s Summit (showing he is a utility option that can play anywhere). At the plate he comes at you from the right side, primarily a line drive hitter but has shown pop to the pull-side gap as well. At the tryouts in August Jax hit the fence in the air on the Century College Fields (by far the deepest ball hit at call-backs). He is an intelligent player that uses his baseball knowledge on the base paths and in the field defensively. Away from the games Jax likes to hang out with the other players and is somewhat of a jokester (loves to rib people). He has been fun to watch in his first season with Blizzard and we look forward to what he thinks of the Vegas tournament.

Fun Fact(s): Jax is a very dedicated hockey player outside of baseball. He recently make the upper level team in his current division when teams were revealed a couple weeks ago (I don’t know the hockey lingo with regards to exact team classification).
