4 more Blizzard players commit to college

Jake Bear, EJ Thomas, Logan Gagnon and Cole Jernberg make their calls


Four more players from the Blizzard program have committed to college from the Blizzard Baseball program.

UTIL/RHP Jake Bear (Sioux Falls, SD), a five-year veteran of the Blizzard program, has committed to the University of St. Thomas.  UST is a DIII powerhouse winning the World Series in 2001 and 2009.  Bear, who won several awards as a Blizzard member, participated in over 20 tournaments and played a role in several of the Blizzard championships.  Bear played on the Varsity Blue team this last year and continued his leadership role by helping his team to the Siebert League Championship, a third place finish in Las Vegas and a third place finish in Perfect Game's MLK Classic.

SS/2B EJ Thomas (Albert Lea, MN), a senior in the Minnesota Blizzard program, has committed to Bossier Parish CC in Louisiana.  Thomas, who has been a standout at Albert Lea High School and for the Blizzard program.  Thomas hit lead-off for his Blizzard Red team leading the team in runs and hits during the fall season.

INF/RHP Logan Gagnon (Apple Valley, MN), a senior at Apple Valley and a four-year vet of the Blizzard program, has committed to Augsburg College, a local DIII team, led by Coach Keith Bateman and assistant (and former Blizzard Coach), Troy Deden.  Gagnon, one the most diligent, focused and hard-working player the Blizzard has seen is an infielder and pitcher who played on the Blizzard's top fall teams since 2011.

RHP Cole Jernberg (Mahtomedi, MN), a senior at Mahtomedi is taking his pitching talent to the University of St. Thomas, one of the better teams and pitching staffs in the country.  The Tommies, led by Head Coach Chris Olean, have won five consecutive MIAC conference titles while finishing third in the 2012 and 2014 DIII World Series.  Jernberg played for the Blizzard Varsity Black this past year and was a standout catcher and pitcher.


The Blizzard has seen 31 players commit to play college baseball this year and over 175 in the past four seasons alone.  30 players who have played for the Blizzard have been drafted since 2008 including players such as Mike Strong (Brewers), Joe Loftus (Diamondbacks), Pat Kelly (Twins), Max Murphy (Twins), Logan Shore (Twins), Brad Mathiowetz (Twins).
